Doctor Mohamed-Ali Hakimi - laureate in the National Junior category - Host-Pathogen

Interactions & Immunity to Infections, Institut Albert Bonniot, Université Grenoble Alpes,

France, Inserm – CNRS.

Laureate in the field of “Tropical and Neglected Diseases”, he is distinguished for his research on the functioning of the parasite responsible for toxoplasmosis. With 1 billion infected worldwide – 1 in every 2 people in France – toxoplasmosis remains a public health issue. It is particularly dreaded by pregnant women.

 

 

 


Doctor Marco Vignuzzi - laureate in the National Junior category - Viral Populations and Pathogenesis Research Unit, Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, and CNRS researcher.

He is rewarded for his major contributions in the study if viral mutations presenting a short-term epidemic potential.

 

 



Professor Keith Matthews - laureate in the International Mid-career category - Center for Immunity,

Infection and Evolution, School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh, United

Kingdom.

Professor Matthews has revolutionized the way clinicians and scientists understand the parasite Trypanosoma brucei responsible for African sleeping sickness.

 

 

 

 

 

Professor Emil Unanue - laureate in the International Senior category - Department of Pathology and

Immunology, Washington University School of Medicine, Saint Louis, USA.

Emil Unanue is one of the top immunologists in the world. He received the Sanofi – Institut Pasteur Award for his research on the recognition of proteins by the immune system. This fundamental finding paved the way to cure autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis.
