The Institut Pasteur will honor 41 PhDs from 11 basic science departments. The graduating class is from Paris V, Paris VI, Paris VII and Paris XI universities. The Graduates honored for this occasion will include 4 Pasteur Paris University PhD program doctors. This program initiated 5 years ago now ranks among the top Graduate programs in Europe. Faithful to Louis Pasteur’s spirit, it aims to foster a group of highly selected international young researchers held together by a shared curriculum, state of the art interdisciplinary lab training, and concern for public health issues.

The ceremony will be marked by the lecture of Cédric Villani, Professor of Mathematics, Chair of the Henri-Poincaré Institute of Mathematics, and the prestigious Fields Medal winner in 2010. Professor Villani has through his work contributed to the understanding of the behavior of movement of particles in gases, starting from the Boltzmann equation. He is also strongly committed to encouraging students at the early stages of their education or career, as witnessed by his numerous participations in student-organized events or in their honor.

In this occasion, the President of Institut Pasteur, Christian Bréchot, will pledge for his commitment to the support of higher education and research training through highly competitive multidisciplinary programs in emerging fields linked to integrative biology, including a brand new MD/PhD Medical Student Training Program (MSTP) to take advantage of the rich medical and scientific resources in the fields of infectious diseases available at the Institut Pasteur.

The ceremony will be blessed by the presence of several VIPs of whom many have contributed to secure financial means in order to fund the PhD projects or stipends for the graduates. This is a significant component of Institut Pasteur's endowment with which it fights to meet the highest goals in scientific achievement, training and commitment to treating infectious diseases.

This year, the ceremony will be held at two venues, at the Salle des Actes and in the Scientific Information Center (CIS) auditorium, marking the return to the traditional celebration of official events held for generations of researchers, including in the time of Louis Pasteur himself. The two places have served as libraries, and therefore a place of remembrance, and to pay tribute to the achievements of the Institut Pasteur researchers.
