All mammals can spread rabies.
Post-exposure rabies treatment should be started as soon as possible after being bitten. This involves several vaccinations, sometimes accompanied by serum therapy. The vaccines currently used are highly effective and well tolerated.
Post-exposure rabies treatment is only performed in France at anti-rabies treatment centers that have been accredited by the French Health Ministry.

Travelers should be aware that although rabies in animals is on the decline in France and Western Europe, it is still prevalent on every other continent.
Pre-exposure vaccination may therefore be recommended depending on your destination.
