EURL-PH-RESVIR

Member of the Consortium of EU Reference Laboratories for Public Health in the field of Respiratory Viruses (EURL-PH-RESVIR)

|

The research unit Molecular mechanisms of multiplication of Pneumoviruses M3P to which the National Reference Centre for Respiratory Viruses (including influenza and SARS‑CoV‑2) is attached, is part of the EU‑PH‑RESVIR network, coordinated by Erasmus Medical Center and bringing together eight institutes located in six countries. The national reference centre within the M3P unit will bring its expertise and know‑how to the consortium, thereby contributing to the strengthening of international capacities in the field of respiratory viruses.

Activities

The European Union Reference Laboratory for Public Health - Respiratory Viruses (EURL-PH-RESVIR) will provide support to the national reference laboratories for activities in relation to influenza virus (seasonal, emerging/pandemic and human infections of zoonotic influenza), SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), as well as other respiratory viruses of epidemic and/or outbreak/health emergency potential, such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, enterovirus D68, adenovirus and human metapneumovirus, or a novel respiratory virus when the need arises. In the field of respiratory viruses, EURL-PH-RESVIR will have a coordination function for the implementation of laboratory support activities within the following areas: reference diagnostics including test protocols; reference material resources; external quality assessments (EQA); scientific advice and technical assistance; collaboration and research; support in outbreak response, including monitoring, alert, investigation and capacities; training; and assistance to implement the European Union laboratory and surveillance strategies.
