The Institut Pasteur and OpenAIRE have formalised a strategic collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing Open Science training and strengthening research capacity across Europe. The partnership brings together the Institut Pasteur’s leadership in biomedical research, education, and public health with OpenAIRE’s expertise in open scholarly communication infrastructures and training.
Within this framework, the two organisations will jointly design and deliver training activities using the OpenPlato e-learning platform, a community-driven learning hub dedicated to Open Science. The initiative will focus on providing high-quality educational opportunities for students, PhD candidates, early-career researchers, and research support staff, helping them develop essential skills in areas such as Open Access publishing, FAIR data management, and responsible research practices.
A central pillar of the partnership is the co-development of interoperable and FAIR-aligned learning resources, including online courses, tutorials, and multimedia content. These openly licensed resources will be designed for easy sharing and reuse across research institutions, ensuring long-term accessibility and impact. In parallel, the collaboration will support the Institut Pasteur in strengthening its internal Open Science training capacity through the integration of OpenPlato into its training ecosystem.
Beyond training activities, the partnership also aims to foster collaboration in European research projects and to strengthen links between the OpenAIRE network and the Pasteur Network, which brings together more than 30 institutes worldwide. By combining complementary expertise and engaging their respective communities, OpenAIRE and the Institut Pasteur aim to broaden the reach of Open Science education and contribute to a more open, collaborative, and sustainable research ecosystem.
"This collaboration with OpenAIRE allows us to strengthen our commitment to training early-career researchers and students in Open Science and responsible research practices. By combining our expertise in biomedical research and education with OpenAIRE’s infrastructure and training ecosystem, we aim to empower young scientists with the knowledge and skills needed to advance open and responsible science."
— Monica Sala, Vice President for Education, Institut Pasteur
"We are excited to collaborate with the Institut Pasteur to expand Open Science training and develop reusable learning resources that benefit researchers across Europe and beyond. Through OpenPlato, we aim to create a sustainable and interoperable training environment that supports institutions in building long-term capacity for Open Science."
— Theodora Kavvadia, Training Coordinator, OpenAIRE
