The Institut Pasteur is a scientific partner of Argobio Studio, a French start-up studio aiming at creating at least five ambitious therapeutic biotech spinouts over the next five years. Argobio will incubate early-stage, highly innovative therapeutic projects up to company creation and Series A venture funding in selected therapeutic areas.

Ce projet, nommé DECIDER, est financé pour cinq ans par l’Union européenne.

The Institut Pasteur's Biological Image Analysis Unit is taking part in a new project selected by the EU's Innovative Medicines Initiative. The project, BIGPICTURE, aims to speed up the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine, especially in biomedical image analysis.

Hearing loss: stepping up research

In recent years, progress in research on hearing mechanisms and the factors responsible for hearing disorders has raised hopes for future preventive and curative therapies. Currently the only solutions for hearing loss are external hearing aids and cochlear implants. The issue is becoming increasingly urgent given the number of people affected by hearing loss, the most common sensory disorder in humans. The Hearing Institute, an Institut Pasteur research center inaugurated a year ago, has the ambition to understand auditory perception and is a great hope for people with hearing loss.

SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19 epidemic: the Institut Pasteur's response, scientific research and discoveries in 2020

The Institut Pasteur is one of the world's leading centers for research on infectious diseases. This area is therefore one of the priority research areas of its 2019-2023 strategic plan. On January 27, 2020, a 'coronavirus task force' was set up to respond to the urgency of this health crisis, by studying the virus and the disease it causes - the task force was created at a time when the 11 million inhabitants of Wuhan (China) are 'locked down' -. Here is a report summarizing the events and reviewing the Institut Pasteur's main action.

Quantitative biological image analysis and cell motility

Biological image analysis using mathematical methods, artificial intelligence and computer visualization techniques has become an essential tool for biological research and an effective driver for new discoveries. In a publication in Patterns (Cell Press)1, scientists from the "Bioimage Analysis Unit"  recently presented the results of multidisciplinary research using quantitative image analysis to shed light on cell motility.

Whooping cough: light shed on the entry mechanism of a key Bordetella pertussis virulence factor

Bordetella pertussis is the agent responsible for whooping cough, a disease that is currently on the rise. In particular, the bacterium produces the CyaA toxin. A consortium including several teams from the Institut Pasteur, CNRS, and Sorbonne University, working closely with the C2RT Proteins Pole technical cores and several SOLEIL and ESRF synchrotron light lines, has examined the entry mechanism of the CyaA toxin in target cells. This work has revealed a membrane translocation mechanism that has proved very useful in terms of knowledge of living biology.

Coqueluche : lumière sur le mécanisme d’entrée d’un des principaux facteurs de virulence de Bordetella pertussis

Bordetella pertussis est l’agent responsable de la coqueluche, actuellement en recrudescence. La bactérie produit notamment une toxine, CyaA. Un consortium regroupant plusieurs équipes de l’Institut Pasteur, du CNRS et de Sorbonne Université, en étroite collaboration avec les plateformes techniques du Pole Protéine du C2RT et plusieurs lignes de lumières des synchrotrons SOLEIL et ESRF, a étudié le mécanisme d’entrée de la toxine CyaA dans les cellules cibles.
