La peste, endémique dans les campagnes de Madagascar, a fait 40 morts sur 119 cas recensés depuis le mois de septembre 2014. L'OMS a tiré la sonnette d'alarme le 21 novembre dernier, date à laquelle après 10 ans d’absence la peste a fait son l’entrée dans Antananarivo, la capitale. Avec l’appui de la Banque africaine de développement, l’OMS, l’Institut Pasteur de Madagascar, la Croix-Rouge et plusieurs ministères malgaches se sont mobilisés pour contrôler cette épidémie.

La survie des ovocytes et leurs interactions avec les cellules somatiques au sein des follicules ovariens conditionnent la fertilité et l’activité endocrine de l’ovaire. L’étude d’un nouveau modèle murin d’insuffisance ovarienne prématurée apporte un nouvel éclairage sur ces deux aspects encore mal connus de la physiologie ovarienne.

La visite au Myanmar de Madame Annick Girardin, Secrétaire d'Etat au Développement et à la Francophonie, fut l'occasion d'officialiser la collaboration scientifique entre l'Institut Pasteur, le Réseau International des Instituts Pasteur et le National Health Laboratory (NHL) à Rangoun.

The arrival in Myanmar of Mrs Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie was an opportunity to formalize the scientific collaboration between the Institut Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur International Network and the National Health Laboratory (NHL) in Rangoon.

Pr Christian Bréchot, President of the Institut Pasteur, will be in Guinea Friday 28th November 2014, alongside François Hollande, President of the French Republic. Two agreements will be signed, one with the government of Guinea and the other one with the French Agency for Development (AFD), allowing for the creation of a new Pasteur Institute in Conakry in late 2016. On Saturday 29th, Pr. Bréchot will visit the Macenta treatment Center where the Institut Pasteur is setting-up a diagnostic laboratory.

Together with teams from Columbia University (USA), CNRS in Toulouse and NIH/NIAID (USA), Institut Pasteur scientists based in Paris and Cambodia have recently provided the key demonstration that K13 is indeed the main determinant of artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium falciparum parasites. This work is a landmark for the scientific community, as it provides a validated molecular marker for artemisinin resistance, which currently poses a major public health problem. This work is published in the journal Science.

Des chercheurs de l’Institut Pasteur à Paris et de l’Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, avec des équipes de l’université de Columbia (USA), du CNRS à Toulouse et du NIH/NIAID (USA) démontrent qu’un gène qu’ils ont récemment identifié est le déterminant majeur de la résistance des parasites Plasmodium falciparum à l’artémisinine. Ces travaux revêtent une importance particulière pour la communauté scientifique, qui dispose maintenant d'un marqueur moléculaire validé de cette résistance, qui pose un problème majeur de santé publique. Ils sont publiés dans la revue Science.

The Institut Pasteur will host on the 12th of December 2014  the 2nd ceremony in honor of its graduating PhD class, with the  Doctors having defended in 2013-2014. This ceremony will be chaired by Pr Christian Bréchot, President of the Institut Pasteur. It will be held in presence of Jean-Philippe Pierre, deputy mayor of the 15th arrondissement of Paris.

L’Institut Pasteur organisera le 12 décembre 2014 pour la deuxième année une cérémonie en l’honneur des doctorants ayant soutenu leur thèse au cours de l’année universitaire 2013-2014. Cette cérémonie sera présidée par le Pr. Christian Bréchot, directeur général de l’Institut Pasteur. Elle se tiendra en présence de M. Jean-Philippe Pierre, adjoint du maire du XVème arrondissement de Paris, M. Philippe Goujon.

The regional MATI meeting was organized in Casablanca by the Institut Pasteur in Morocco. This meeting provided a unique opportunity for researchers from MATI region and also for visiting researchers from the Hellenic and Dakar Institut Pasteur to share, compare their knowledge / scientific experiences and to explore new areas specific to the MATI region for cooperation in the areas of health.
