2025 Annual Report - Continuing to rise to scientific challenges in an uncertain world
The Institut Pasteur’s 2025 Annual Report marks a major milestone: the first year of implementation of our Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan. Against the backdrop of an unstable international context, this report demonstrates our commitment to "Pasteurian" values and our ability to transform science into a source of hope for human health. Thanks to the dedication of our 3,213 employees from 93 countries, the Institut Pasteur continues to push the boundaries of knowledge.
Highlights of this report:
- A central thematic feature, “Observing and Understanding: The Long-Term Impact of Pathogens and Infectious Diseases,” which explores the impact of pathogens well beyond the acute phase of infection.
- Exceptional scientific vitality, with more than 1,132 publications in 2025. For example, our teams have made major advances in bacterial immunity, immunotherapy for blood cancers, and our understanding of the microbiome.
- An in-depth look at AI, the new frontier in science. Discover the launch of the Pasteur AI initiative, which aims to make artificial intelligence a driving force in biological research.

2025 Financial Report - Evolving Our Business Model and Securing Our Ability to Advance Science
The Institut Pasteur’s funding model is based on diversified sources of funding, most of which are private. This model has ensured the Institute’s independence since its founding in 1887, made possible by an international fundraising campaign. In a challenging economic climate, discussions are underway to adapt this model and secure our ability to advance science in the service of human health and fulfill our missions (research, education, public health, and the development of research applications).
As shown in the Institut Pasteur’s income statement by source and use of funds, the revenue for the fiscal year recorded total 402.5 million euros.
It should be noted that, for the past four years, we have observed a decline in the assets/budget ratio which is threatening our independence and ability to invest in the Institut Pasteur’s future. During the 2025 fiscal year, we implemented initial measures to better manage expenditure with a more frugal approach to operation and suspension of major real estate investments. This last measure did not include scientific projects such as the vaccinology center. At the same time, philanthropy has witnessed remarkable growth. Working groups are continuing to advance their work on philanthropy, assets, innovation and payroll to adapt our business model and secure our trajectory.
