In February 2017, Dr Halima Maïnassara is the first woman from Niger to be appointed Director General of the Center for Medical and Health Research (CERMES) in Niamey. Physician, epidemiologist expert in meningitis, she started to work for this public institution, member of the Institut Pasteur International Network, in February 2005 as a field investigator.

En février 2017, Dr Halima Maïnassara devient la première femme nigérienne a occuper le poste de Directrice générale du Centre de Recherche Médicale et Sanitaire (CERMES) à Niamey. Médecin, épidémiologiste spécialiste des méningites, elle avait commencé à travailler au sein de cet établissement public de référence membre du Réseau international des instituts Pasteur en février 2005 comme enquêtrice de terrain.

Pathogens transmitted by vectors insects, mosquito being the number one, are a growing threat in all parts of the world. The scientific discipline which aims to study insects impacting  uman health is called medical entomology. Little known by the general public, medical entomology is nevertheless essential to identify vector insects, evaluate their risk for the health of populations and control those vectors.

Les agents pathogènes transmis par des insectes vecteurs, au premier rang desquels trône le moustique, constituent une menace croissante dans toutes les régions du monde. La discipline scientifique qui vise à étudier les insectes ayant un impact sur la santé de l’homme est l’entomologie médicale. Peu connue du grand public, l’entomologie médicale est pourtant indispensable pour identifier les insectes vecteurs, évaluer leur risque pour la santé des populations et lutter contre ces vecteurs.

In February 2018, Dr Spencer Shorte was named Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to Institut Pasteur Korea.

Celebrated every year in mid-April, Bon Chaul Chhnam, the Khmer New Year, is one of the most important festivals in Cambodia. For the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge Virology Unit, it is also a time of intense mobilization. Supported by the Cambodian National Animal Health and Production Research Insititute, the researchers pay frequent visits to the live poultry markets to monitor the circulation of avian influenza viruses, in particular highly pathogenic A(H5N1) viruses.

Célébré chaque année mi-avril, Bon Chaul Chhnam, le Nouvel An Khmer, est une des fêtes les plus importantes au Cambodge. Pour l’unité de virologie de l’Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, c’est aussi un moment d’intense mobilisation. Appuyé par l’Institut national cambodgien de recherche sur la santé et la production animales, les chercheurs se rendent fréquemment sur les marchés de volailles vivantes. Objectif : surveiller la circulation des virus de grippes aviaires, en particulier les virus hautement pathogènes A(H5N1).
