Teams of the Departments of Parasites and Insect Vectors and of Structural Biology and Chemistry are dedicated to characterize the dissemination and the mechanisms of drug resistance of parasitic infections and to develop alternative strategies to fight them.


Jean-Christophe Barale - Structural Microbiology Unit

Via combining expertise from the malaria-endemic region and knowledge-based research relying on multi-disciplinary approaches, this unit addresses P.falciparum­-specific mechanisms of resistance and aims at validating new anti-malarial candidates active on multi-resistant parasites.

Didier Ménard - Malaria Genetics and Resistance Group, Biology of Host-Parasite Interactions Unit

In the context of malaria elimination, the vision of this team is to address new challenges created by the changing epidemiology of malaria, especially the emergence and spread of P. falciparum resistance to antimalarial drugs.

Brice Rotureau - Trypanosome Transmission Group, Trypanosome Cell Biology Unit

The researchers investigate the development and transmission of dermal trypanosomes that represent a reservoir of parasites possibly involved in Human African Trypanosomiasis relapses.

Gerald Spaeth - Molecular Parasitology and Signaling

Applying population-genetics approaches and conducting evolutionary studies in animals and in culture, this unit has identified novel mechanisms of Leishmania genomic adaptation.
