Housing: FAQ (frequently asked questions)
1. Eligibility conditions and priorities
PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, interns, master’s students, visiting researchers, Institut Pasteur employees, as well as certain participants of Pasteur Courses, can request housing via the accommodation solutions offered by the Institut Pasteur.
Each year, the Institut Pasteur welcomes approximately 1000 interns, students and researchers. The Institut Pasteur does its best to negotiate and subsidize accommodation solutions. But the supply we access is not unlimited and must be shared by all.
Many factors can influence accommodation allocation, notably availability on a given date and length of stay. The Housing Office establishes the following priorities for applicants:
- New international recruits (especially those requiring a visa for France)
- Requests from low-income individuals
- Persons without existing housing solutions in the Île-de-France region
- Specific programs where accommodation was pre-arranged
- Requests from the Pasteur Network
2. Types of accommodation

Unfortunately, pets are not accepted in our partner residences. To be accommodated with pets, you must seek private-sector solutions. However, you do not need to specify this unless necessary.
No, this is unfortunately not offered.
3. Request procedure
You must complete the unique Microsoft Form here. This form contains your contract details and accommodation preferences.
As soon as possible.
Responses typically take one month or longer. Important: the Housing Office processes only those accommodation requests that have been validated by Human Resources (HR). We cannot provide updates regarding your HR file status. Please direct all inquiries to your host laboratory and HR assistant.
Submitting a new housing application form with the updated dates is required if your arrival date changes. The processing of applications is based on the dates provided in the form, so applications that have not been updated cannot be considered.
When all administrative conditions for your stay at Institut Pasteur are fulfilled, you will receive an offer from the Housing Office, which you must validate within 48 hours. Otherwise, your request will be rejected.
Your application may be rejected or suspended if you keep rejecting housing offers without valid reasons. In order to ensure fair and efficient use of housing opportunities, available accommodations will be redistributed to other applicants on the waiting list.
4. Finances and billing
Rates vary by residence and services selected; consult each partnership page.
Yes, one or two months’ rent depending on accommodation. For CIUP (one month) to be paid to the CIUP, for Nexity Studéa (two months) to be paid to the Housing Office.

APL can be requested for all partnerships. The Housing Office does not process APL requests; contact your residence manager for information. Decisions are made by CAF after individual case review.
5. Contract and stay duration
Stays at CIUP through our partnership are possible from 1 month up to 1 year. Exceptional extensions may be requested. For shorter stays, specific registration can be made directly here. For students, the duration of the stay may be extended to 3 years, for postdocs to 2 years, outside the partnership, subject to the acceptance of a renewal request, to be renewed annually with the CIUP admissions service.
Other solutions available here.
For Nexity: The contract runs from your start date until the end of the calendar year (31/12), renewable until the end of your Institut Pasteur contract.
6. Contract Termination
How to terminate the contract? One month’s notice is required before departure from CIUP residences. For Nexity, the contract can only be terminated at year-end and upon termination of your work contract.
