A multidisciplinary program in Global Health
Today’s major health challenges require scientific, medical, social and environmental approaches to be considered together.
The Advanced Master in Global Health Pasteur-Cnam-EHESP provides multidisciplinary training enabling students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to understand, analyze and address population health issues.
The program combines the complementary expertise of the Institut Pasteur, Cnam and EHESP, and includes Pasteur Courses delivered at the Institut Pasteur Education Center.
A three-stage program
The program runs from October to October and is divided into three main components:
1. A core curriculum in public health
From October to December, students take five core modules:
- Epidemiology – coordinator: Arnaud Fontanet
- Health security – coordinator: Laura Témime
- Biostatistics – coordinator: Ndèye Niang-Keita
- Key principles and current practices in Global Health – coordinator: Stéphane Besançon
- Social sciences and health – coordinators: Aymery Constant and Laurence Hartmann

2. A specialization in Global Health
From January to April, students deepen their understanding of global health issues through specialized courses, given either :
At the Institut Pasteur, as part of the Pasteur Courses offered by the Education Center.
- Pandemics: Origin and Response
- Climate Change and Population Health
- Mother-Child Dyad: Current Evidence from a Global Perspective
- The Last Mile: Towards the Elimination of Major Infectious Diseases
- Creation and Management of Databases
- Introduction to R
- Data Analysis with STATA
- Modeling of Infectious Diseases
- Insect Vectors and Transmission of Pathogens (offered every two years)
And at EHESP (Rennes) :
Courses are offered in French or English depending on the course. Please refer to the individual course page for further details.
3. An internship and advanced master thesis
From May to October, students undertake a professional internship during which they apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program. This period also includes the preparation of a thesis, which is defended in December.
The internship enables students to gain professional experience in their chosen field of specialization and to engage directly with global health challenges.
Training at the heart of global health challenges
The Advanced Master – Mastère Spécialisé is aimed at professionals and students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. It brings together scientific, medical, social and operational perspectives to address global health challenges.
The program is particularly suited to:
- physicians, veterinarians and pharmacists;
- biologists and life science professionals;
- professionals working in health agencies;
- staff from NGOs and international organizations;
- development specialists;
- professionals in the agri-food and pharmaceutical industries;
- public health engineers;
- geographers, economists and sociologists;
- public health professionals and hospital administrators;
- final-year students wishing to specialize in Global Health.
A recognized qualification
The Advanced Master – Mastère Spécialisé in Global Health is a Level 1 diploma accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE).
It is aimed at candidates holding a Master’s degree (bac +5) from a variety of backgrounds, as well as candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (bac +4) and professional experience in public health.
Training within the Pasteur ecosystem
Specialization courses are mainly organized at the Institut Pasteur, as part of the Pasteur Courses offered by the Education Center. This close connection with the Institut Pasteur enables students to benefit from the expertise of scientists and professionals working on major public health and infectious disease challenges.
Some of the Advanced master’s courses also constitute course units (UEs) within the Emerging Infectious Diseases (MIE) program of the Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Graduate School One Health – Emerging Infectious Diseases at Université Paris Cité.
