The Institut Pasteur owes its creation in 1888 to the crucial support of major French and international donors and patrons. Grateful to Louis Pasteur for his discovery of the rabies vaccine, they expressed their gratitude through their generosity. Today, more than a third of the Institut Pasteur's budget is funded by private generosity.
