From lab to patients
The research cycle
"There is no pure science and applied science, only science and its applications, bound together as the fruit of the tree that bears it." — Louis Pasteur
Our inventions and innovations
With 68 invention disclosures, 225 active patent families and over 1,670 patents in circulation in 2025, the Institut Pasteur is a major medical innovation player both in France and internationally.
Its innovations include hepatitis B vaccines, gene therapy to restore hearing, vaccine candidates to fight chikungunya and VR-based pre-surgical modeling. Each of these pursues the same goal of turning scientific discoveries into tangible hope for human health.
Technology at the core of our research
32 platforms and core facilities at the Institut Pasteur offer state-of-the-art equipment (atomic microscopy, genomic sequencing, microbial biobanking, etc.) allowing scientists to explore the living world as never before, open up new scientific horizons, and meet key global health challenges.
An ecosystem of innovative startups
Since 1888, the Institut Pasteur has not only generated first-class scientific knowledge, but also turned this into real-world solutions for patients. Drawing on an ecosystem of innovative startups, we translate discoveries into widely accessible therapies.
