A ce jour, aucun vaccin n’existe contre l’arénavirus Lassa, responsable de la fièvre de Lassa. Cette fièvre hémorragique, endémique en Afrique de l’Ouest, infecte jusqu’à 300 000 personnes par an. Dans ce contexte d’urgence, les chercheurs de l’unité de Biologie des infections virales émergentes et de l’unité de génomique virale et vaccination de l’Institut Pasteur ont évalué l’efficacité de plusieurs vaccins candidats.

Le samedi 5 octobre, l’édition 2019 de l’événement S3ODEON se tiendra, comme tous les ans, au théâtre de l’Odéon. Ce rassemblement grand public, dont l’Institut Pasteur est partenaire, organise des courtes prises de paroles sur trois sujets incontournables : sciences, santé et société. Cette année, Guillaume Dumas, chercheur au sein de l’unité Génétique humaine et fonctions cognitives de l’Institut Pasteur interviendra pour évoquer sa thématique de recherche.

An international scientific inauguration meeting was held on September 16 and 17, 2019 at the Collège de France to mark the creation of the Hearing Institute, an Institut Pasteur center dedicated to auditory neuroscience research.

The BTP PLUS Foundation, a joint foundation representing the construction sector, signed a sponsorship agreement with the Institut Pasteur in the spring to fund a research project led by Frédéric Tangy, an Institut Pasteur scientist. The aim of the project is to fight mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer that particularly affects people working in the construction sector.

La Fondation BTP PLUS, fondation paritaire représentant la branche du BTP (Bâtiment et Travaux Publics), a signé au printemps un accord de mécénat avec l’Institut Pasteur pour soutenir un projet de recherche mené par Frédéric Tangy, chercheur de l’Institut Pasteur, et qui vise à lutter contre le cancer du mésothéliome, un cancer provoqué par l’amiante touchant notamment les personnels travaillant dans le BTP.

A l’occasion de la création de l’Institut de l’Audition, centre de l’Institut Pasteur dédié aux recherches en neurosciences de l’audition, un congrès scientifique inaugural s’est tenu les 16 et 17 septembre 2019 au Collège de France.

An interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Institut Pasteur and the Georgia Institute of Technology has received a $2.5 million National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to study phage therapy. This project aims to deepen the fundamental knowledge and the clinical potential of bacteria-killing viruses – also called bacteriophage, or phage –, to treat antibiotic-resistant infection.

Une équipe interdisciplinaire de chercheurs de l’Institut Pasteur et du Georgia Institute of Technology a reçu la somme de 2,5 millions de dollars des National Institutes of Health (NIH) pour étudier la phagothérapie. Ce projet vise à approfondir les connaissances fondamentales et le potentiel clinique des virus tueurs de bactéries, également appelés bactériophages, dans le traitement des infections résistantes aux antibiotiques.

Depression is a complex multifactorial condition whose underlying mechanisms have still not been elucidated. Available treatments are therefore far from effective, and it is estimated that 30% of patients are resistant to conventional treatment. Scientists from the Institut Pasteur, in collaboration with teams from Sainte-Anne Hospital, have shed light on the role of brain inflammation as a mechanism that may lead to depression. This is an important discovery in our understanding of the condition, paving the way for new treatment possibilities.
