2024 Annual Report
The year 2024 was a decisive milestone for the Institut Pasteur, marking an intensive period of preparation and launch of its Pasteur 2030 strategic plan, which positions “life as the new scientific horizon.”
In the joint interview opening the annual report, Yves Saint-Geours, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Yasmine Belkaid, Director General, look back on 2024, emphasizing that despite an uncertain context and attacks on science worldwide, the Institut Pasteur demonstrated remarkable dynamism with more than 1,000 scientific publications. They stress the importance of defending science in public debate and reaffirming the Institute's historic humanist values.
The central focus of this report is devoted to one of the scientific priorities of the Strategic Plan, “environmental transitions and health.” It highlights how climate change and human activities exacerbate infectious diseases, affect our bodies, and promote microbial resistance. The Institut Pasteur's commitment to limiting the environmental impact of its activities is also outlined.
Finally, in line with the unveiling of the Institut Pasteur's new identity, this “new version” of the annual report incorporates the institution's new identity elements.
2024 Financial Report
The Institut Pasteur's economic model is characterized by a variety of public and private funding sources, which are used to support missions that are deeply rooted in a long-term perspective. These missions (research, teaching, public health, development of research applications) contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases, particularly infectious diseases. As shown in the Institut Pasteur's income statement by source and destination, the resources for the financial year recorded in the income statement amount to €396.9 million. Public generosity continues to contribute to the Institut Pasteur's sources of funding, with one-third of our resources coming from philanthropy.
It should be noted that the current result for 2024 shows a significant deficit, which was anticipated by the institute. The economic and financial context in 2025 remains uncertain, prompting the institute to exercise caution and even rigor. As indicated in the 2025 outlook, appropriate action plans are in place to control spending, and an in-depth review of the economic model is underway.
