The Award Winners 2016

These Awards honors four scientists, whose outstanding research in the life sciences is contributing to progress in global public health.


International Senior award


Patrice COURVALIN

Field : Drug Resistance

He has been at the forefront of antibiotic resistance research for four decades. He is distinguished for his remarkable contributions to the understanding of the genetics, biochemistry, and clinical impact of antibiotic resistance in bacteria pathogenic for humans.

 


International Mid-career award


Yasmine BELKAID

Field : Immunology

She is rewarded for her major exploration of host-microbe interactions in tissues. With her group, she uncovered fundamental mechanisms promoting microbe persistence within tissues and demonstrated that the gut and skin microbiota play a pivotal role in immunity to pathogens and in the control of vaccine responses.

 


National Junior awards 


Françoise BENOIT-VICAL

Field : Tropical and neglected diseases

She is rewarded for her major contributions in innovative studies that have had strong impact in 3 major areas of malaria research leading to new strategies to fight malaria. 


 

Olivier NEYROLLES

Field : Tropical and neglected diseases

He is distinguished for his research on tuberculosis. Despite tremendous efforts made in the past decades to develop new drugs and vaccines against tuberculosis, this disease still remains a major threat to public health
