On the occasion of the Franco-Mexican convention on Health, which took place this Friday, July 10^th  at the French National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Mercedes Juan López, Minister of Health of Mexico and Christian Bréchot, President of the Institut Pasteur signed a memorandum of understanding to regulate and strengthen the Franco-Mexican scientific collaborations.

Eligo Bioscience, located at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, announced it received an investment of €2m in a seed round financing from Seventure Partners, one of Europe’s leaders in financing innovation and visionary investor in the microbiome field since 2008.

Depuis le 20 mai 2015, une épidémie de MERS-CoV sévit en Corée du Sud, le virus ayant été rapporté du Moyen-Orient par un voyageur. À ce jour (vendredi 26 juin 2015), on compte 180 cas, dont 31 morts en Corée. Dans le cadre de sa mission pour la santé mondiale, l’Institut Pasteur, grâce à sa force d’investigation des épidémies, est mobilisé dans la surveillance de l’évolution de l’épidémie.

Since May 20, 2015, South Korea has been facing an outbreak of MERS-CoV that began with a traveler who returned from the Middle East. To date (as of June 24, 2015), there have been 179 cases and 27 deaths in Korea. As part of its global health mission, the Institut Pasteur is actively involved in monitoring the development of the outbreak, through its dedicated outbreak investigation taskforce.

Sequencing the genome of Ebola virus strains circulating in Guinea has allowed scientists at the Institut Pasteur in Dakar and in Paris, the CNRS and the University of Sydney to retrace the spread of the virus and monitor its evolution in the country where the outbreak started. This research reveals the co-circulation in Guinea, particularly in the urban regions of the capital and neighboring towns, of three distinct variants of the virus whose mutations are described in an article published in Nature.

Le séquençage du génome de souches du virus Ebola circulant en Guinée par des chercheurs de l’Institut Pasteur de Dakar et de Paris, du CNRS et de l’université de Sydney a permis de retracer la diffusion du virus et de suivre son évolution dans le pays où l’épidémie a débuté. Ces travaux révèlent la co-circulation, notamment dans les régions urbaines de la capitale du pays et des villes voisines, de trois différents variants du virus dont les mutations sont décrites dans un article paru dans Nature.

Scientists have successfully increased the infiltration of immune cells into tumors, thus inducing the immune system to block tumor growth. They show that, in combination with existing immunotherapies, this process efficiently destroys cancer cells.

Des chercheurs sont parvenus à augmenter l'afflux des cellules immunitaires vers les tumeurs, afin que le système immunitaire bloque la croissance tumorale. Ils révèlent que ce procédé, en combinaison avec les immunothérapies existantes, détruit les cellules cancéreuses.

Grâce à l’étude du virus SIRV2, qui est capable de survivre dans des environnements extrêmes, des chercheurs de l’Université de Washington, de l’Université de Virginie et de l’Institut Pasteur ont révélé un mécanisme fondamental de résistance de ce virus à la chaleur, à la déshydratation et au rayonnement ultraviolet. Cette découverte ouvre la voie vers le développement de nouvelles méthodes d’encapsidation de l’ADN pour la thérapie génique.
