A NEW FREE ONLINE COURSE OF THE INSTITUT PASTEUR
In collaboration with Paris-Diderot University
Antibiotics have saved millions of lives. Decades after their discovery, resistance due to an abusive and uncontrolled use has progressively emerged and rapidly spread. It concerns nearly all known antibiotics. This will lead to an increasing number of situations where antibiotic treatments are no longer an option. The global nature of this crisis and its substantial health and economic burdens prompt us to urgently identify new alternatives as well as to implement new policies to combat resistance.
This MOOC provides an overview of the epidemiology of resistant bacteria in different parts of the globe. It reviews classical and current methods for detection of resistance in clinical settings. It deals with the origins and molecular mechanisms of resistance development and dissemination. The course highlights adequate stewardship and nally, discusses next generation alternatives that make use of genome editing and silencing tools.
This course is open to everyone interested in antibiotic resistance, however a bachelor of science is recommended.
