This two-week course presents the theoretical and practical bases for designing clinical trials that meet international quality criteria in the field of infectious and tropical diseases.

The teaching includes an alternation of classes and tutorials. Topics covered include:

  • clinical trial methodology (superiority and non-inferiority) and pragmatic trials: from trial design to
    results analysis;

  • ethical and regulatory aspects of comparative trials;

  • material conditions of organization and conduct of clinical trials;

  • publication and interpretation of a clinical trial report.

The book: "Clinical Trials - Theory, Practice and Criticism" by G. Bouvenot and M. Vray (4th edition) will be provided as a course material.


Participants must bring a calculator.


This course is intended for health professionals, students in health professions and researchers working in the field of infectiology.

Applications are evaluated by the Course Committee.
