On November 5th, 2021, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr. Minh Chinh Pham visited the Institut Pasteur with his ministerial delegation, including the Vice Minister of Health Mr. Truong Son Nguyen and the Ambassador of Vietnam to France, His Excellency Mr. Toan Thang Dinh. On this occasion, His Excellency underlined the importance of the scientific collaboration between the Institut Pasteur and Vietnam, strongly linked through the Pasteur Network and its three Vietnamese members.

Vietnam is the only country with three members of the Pasteur Network, and it is also the country that hosted the first Institut Pasteur outside metropolitan France: the Institut Pasteur in Ho Chi Minh City, in 1891. The two other institutes then came to reinforce this collaboration in 1895 and 1925 respectively with the Institut Pasteur in Nha Trang and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology. During his official visit to the Institut Pasteur in Paris on Friday, November 5th, 2021, His Excellency Mr. Minh Chinh Pham, Prime Minister of Vietnam, highlighted the exceptional links between the Institut Pasteur and Vietnam in terms of scientific cooperation.

Accompanied by a ministerial delegation and the Vietnamese ambassador to France, the Prime Minister explained to the representatives of the Institut Pasteur, the common actions of the four members of the Pasteur Network: biomedical research, public health with notably the prevention of epidemics etc. His Excellency underlined the importance of their collaboration during the CCOVID-19 crisis and the commitment of the Pasteur Network members in Vietnam.

In the presence of His Excellency Nicolas Warnery, French Ambassador to Vietnam, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Honorary President of the Pasteur Network and Christophe d'Enfert, Scientific Director of the Institut Pasteur, the Deputy Director General of the Institut Pasteur, François Romaneix, spoke about the ongoing projects between the Institut Pasteur in Paris and the three institutes in Vietnam concerning HIV, hepatitis or leptospirosis with the ECOMORE project. The meeting confirmed the interest of both parties in the collaborations between the Institut Pasteur and Vietnam and within the Pasteur Network and for global health.

Within the framework of the Vietnam-France strategic partnership launched in 2013, His Excellency encouraged the continuation of this positive dynamic and emphasized the need to specify it, particularly by setting up an operational plan for research and training. The wish was also confirmed to strengthen technology transfer activities with the aim of achieving a global cooperation in health. Continued investment by all stakeholders is necessary to deepen research in molecular biology, immunology, prevention of emergencies, vaccine and drug production, as well as in diagnostics and research of active components in order to continue the fight against COVID-19 and other tropical diseases circulating in Vietnam.
