ART family systems are found in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. This family is comprised of proteins with an ABC2 organization. No transmembrane proteins were found to be associated with these proteins, which are involved in cellular processes other than transport and antibiotic resistance in bacteria. On the basis of multiple alignments and phylogenetic trees, 3 subfamilies could be distinguished.
