ZHANG Shuyi got his PhD from the University Pierre & Marie Curie (Paris, France) in 1994.
During his PhD field study, he worked for 19 months in primary forest of French Guiana (Nouragues Station) on the behavioral ecology of Cebus paella, under the supervision of Professor Pierre Charles-Dominique. Then he returned to China in 1995 and worked on the behavioral ecology of different mammals, mainly primates and bats. Working on bats led him to work in close collaboration with virologists of different institutions, within China and from other countries. He is currently the director of a research group comprising two technicians and 10 students (one Post-Doc, 7 PhD students and 2 Master Students). In addition, other colleagues, both within the Institute of Zoology (Dr JIA Zhiyun, Prof. WEI Fuwen, Dr JIANG Zhigang, Dr MENG Zhibin) and from other Institutions (Prof. LI Wenping of Hunan Agriculture University, working on the reproduction of masked palm civets; HUA Yuping from the Forestry University, working on the relationships among viruses, wild animals and human being; FANG Shengguo from Zhejiang University, working on the molecular taxonomy) will also join the research team.
