Institution

The Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention was established in Beijing by decision of the Ministry of Sciences and Technology (MOST). The institution is led by Pr DONG Xiaoping. It has 5 BSL3 laboratories and is developing applied research such as a serodiagnostic kit for SARS and other infectious diseases and basic sciences with molecular virology in particular to prepare vaccine development. The China CDC is based in Beijing but is working at a national level to implement high standards in virological researches.

Participants

Pr Jianwei WANG is MD and PhD in virology and immunology. He is leading the Department of Viral Diarrhea in his institution and has moved to the respiratory virus field (SARS CoV and flu) since the last SARS epidemic in Beijing. He has a great experience in viral research on rotavirus and has recently developed research on sero-epidemiology,pathogenesis, animal model and virus-cell interaction of SARS CoV.

Participation of women: Chang Zhaorui, junior scientist, with experiences in molecular virology.
