YELLOW FEVER SURVEILLANCE
SENEGAL : Yellow fever virus was isolated from three cases in November 1981. Two cases, in children four and six years old respectively, were from the municipality of Meckhe, District of Tivaouane, north east of Dakar, where a high mortality from "febrile hepatitis" had been noticed among children. Several other blood specimens collected from affected children showed the presence of arbovirus group B. Yellow fever virus was further Isolated from two Aedes furcifer in the same area. Immunization and vector control were immediately reinforced. The third case of confirmed yellow fever was a fatal case in a non-immunized woman living in Dakar who had been visited Koungheul, Kafrine District where yellow fever virus had been detected before. No further cases have been reported in the country since.
