Isolé par SMITHBURN et coll., Entabbe (Ouganda), à partir d'un lot de 14 espèces de femelles adultes d'Aedes, sous la référence Original.
Prélevement effectué 5 Septembre 1943.
Lieu de collecte : Bunyamwera III, Bwamba (Ouganda), 00° 51' N, 29° 59' E.
Milieu : Forêt tropicale.
ISOLEMENT :
Inoculation sous cutanée sur singe Rhésus le 20 Septembre 1943. Le singe, conservé en chambre d'isolement, est mort 13 semaines après.
IDENTIFICATION :
Cette souche a été reconnue comme différente de tous les arbovirus auxquels elle a été comparée, à l'exception des membres du groupe Bunyamwera, avec lesquels il présente des liens antigéniques. Le virus Ukauwa est considéré comme souche du virus Bunyamwera (BEARCROFT, 1963). La séroneutralisation croisée avec 23 virus du groupe Bunyamwera montre que le virus Bunyamwera appartient à ce groupe, tout en étant différent des autres virus.
