The Scientific media library covers the scientific community needs in the main fields of the Institut Pasteur’s activity. It has been associated with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France since 1996 and appointed as a depository for World Health Organisation's publications since 2000. The media library, which has kept virtually all of its collections since the Institut Pasteur was created, numbers 250,000 volumes, including 45,850 monograph titles and 3,100 print journal collections. The current journal subscriptions amount 132 print journals and over 3.000 on-line journals. This year, the media library has developped its project to digitize its historical scientific materials with the posting of Elie Metchnikoff’s works that belong to our collections and was not yet freely available on the web. We will go on with this digitizing project by making available other articles referenced in our historical bibliography of pasteurian’s scientific writings. Hal-Pasteur, an institutional repository specific to the Institut Pasteur publications, was made available in 2007 and contains 1362 documents so far. Since researchers are expected to deposit in an online repository their peer reviewed research articles or their final manuscripts resulting from the European Commission FP7 projects, Hal-Pasteur can be used to fulfill the requirements of the FP7 open access. It can also be used to follow the recommendations of the ANR (national agency for research) which has been encouraging researchers, since late 2007, to include their publications in open archives systems like Hal. In addition, since the end of 2010, all the publications of Hal-Pasteur are automatically imported in the Institut Pasteur's publications database in addition with all the publications present in the Web of Science and PubMed with an Institut Pasteur's affiliation. In the last two years, the media library improved the document delivery service by sending scanned articles directly by e-mail, when authorized by the copyright owner. In fact, two suppliers allow this service. For the other suppliers, the article photocopies are still provided by internal or postal mail. For many years, the media library has offered training courses in how to use the bibliographic tools available on campus (Pubmed, EndNote…). They are accessible to the staff, trainees and students of the Institut Pasteur. Last year, two more short courses were added on how to access full-text articles and how to order an article. This year, we have added an English version of these courses for non-French speakers. Many sessions have also been organized to help researchers to deposit their articles in the Hal-Pasteur repository. Since early 2008, the media library has organized scientific film screenings. These events aim to informing the library users of the latest audiovisual acquisitions. On a bimonthly basis, the members of the Institut Pasteur have been invited to view a film and take part in an informal discussion, chaired by a researcher specialized in the field. This year, the library has continued to have scientific films known as an interesting information source, by organizing a Film Club, the last weeks of December. In order to highlight the treasures of its collections, the Scientific media library organized exhibitions about the sciences of evolution, about Georges Cohen on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebrations and in collaboration with the Archives service, an exhibition to celebrate the centenary of Jacques Monod’s birth. The library also took part in the meetings organized by the Communication Department to welcome the new members of the Institut Pasteur and we released a new information brochure intended for a better awareness by researchers of the library service value.
