Since its creation in 1987, the archives service has been put in charge of the Institut Pasteur's historical documentary heritage, which has been recorded, classified, listed and made available to the reading public. In addition, the archives service is responsible for the preservation of the intermediate records provided by the management, the administrative departments and the laboratories of the Institut Pasteur.

The corpus of description forms for items and biographies has been enlarged with 12 forms for archival holdings, 12 biographical forms in French and 14 forms translated into English ; we are currently putting online some 269 description forms for records and 204 biographical forms.

Reading room :

The archives service has fulfilled 300 requests for consulting material, which have been submitted by about a hundred readers coming from France and from abroad. The service was estimated in 2010 to deal with a flow of 1,500 archival boxes each year. Six papers published in 2010, quoting their source material in the Institut Pasteur's archival holdings, have been reported so far.
