Family Lipothrixviridae
Genus Betalipothrixvirus
Species
Acidianus filamentous virus 3, AFV3, dsDNA 40,449 bp, sequence acc. no. AM087120
Acidianus filamentous virus 6, AFV6, linear dsDNA 39577 bp, sequence acc. no. AM087121
Acidianus filamentous virus 7, AFV7, linear dsDNA 36895 bp, sequence acc. no. AM087122
Acidianus filamentous virus 8, AFV8, linear dsDNA 38179 bp, sequence acc. no. AM087123
Acidianus filamentous virus 9, AFV9, linear dsDNA 41,172 bp, sequence acc. no. EU545650

Virions of AFV3 are flexuous filaments, about 2000 nm in length and 24 nm in width. They are enveloped with a 3,1 nm thick envelope which can be removed by treatment with detergents. At the two ends of virions are present complex collars with two sets of filaments, resembling a bottle brush with a cap 17 nm in diameter on its top. Scale bars, A, 200 nm; the rest, 100 nm.

Genus Gammalipothrixvirus
Species - Acidianus filamentous virus 1, AFV1; linear dsDNA 20,869bp, sequence acc. no. AJ567472

Virions are enveloped flexuous filaments, about 900 nm in length and 24 nM in width. The envelope is 3-4 nm thick and can be removed by treatment with detergents. Both ends carry identical claw-like structures with a diameter of 20 nm. Scale bars, 100 nm

Species - Acidianus filamentous virus 2, AFV2; linear dsDNA 31,787 bp, sequence acc. no. AJ854042

Virions are flexuous filaments, about 1100 nm in length and 24 nM in width. They are enveloped with a 3-4 nm thick envelope which can be removed by treatment with detergents.
