STORM over the Eiffel Tower

This movie shows a reconstruction of the Eiffel tower (right) from a movie of blinking lights (left), obtained using an algorithm developed for pointillist super-resolution microscopy. The large blinking spots in the low resolution left movie are individually detected by the algorithm and their positions are shown by smaller spots in the center movie. These spots are accumulated over time to build up the high resolution image on the right. Note how finer details of the tower structure are visible in the high-resolution reconstruction, but not in the low resolution movie. (Ricardo Henriques, November 2009).
