Ph.D. Thesis Timeline and defense

The Ph.D. duration is for three years. The time to submit the Ph.D. thesis will be determined with respect to the scientific achievements as judged by the Thesis Advisor and the TAC, the requirements of the doctoral schools, and the work contract.

Specific requirements in the writing of the thesis will follow guidelines from the doctoral schools. This will set the starting of a thesis defense deposit procedure.

Accordingly, the following will be generally set, which might differ slightly according to the doctoral schools:
  • The scientific content (decided and monitored by the Thesis Advisor)
  • The calendar of events before the final defense day according to the respective doctoral schools
  • The proposal of the composition of the jury to the University (including two referees)
  • Approval by the president of the doctoral school and the president of the university of the composition of the jury
  • Notification of the date of defense to the doctoral school and the PPU Committee
  • Deposition of the Thesis manuscript
  • Revisions as requested by the designated referees of the jury
  • Defense day per se
  • Report of the Thesis jury on the decision after the defense to the doctoral school and a copy to the PPU Committee
  • Fulfillment of all requirements (administrative and otherwise) for the obtention of the Ph.D. diploma
Exceptional prolongation of the thesis beyond the three years must be submitted for approval to the Doctoral School
Only in specific cases this is accepted.

Funding by the PPU Program is for the three year period and WILL not be extended.
