The Pasteur - Paris University International Doctoral Program
Educational Program
THESIS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
All TAC meetings should convene in the following sequence:
(1) The students will write a brief progress report that addresses research progress, courses, publications, and any additional information pertinent to the student’s thesis, to be sent to the TAC Committee at least one week before the scheduled meeting
(2) A brief discussion between the members of the TAC Committee in the absence of the student
(3) A presentation of the research progress by the student to the committee to provide an opportunity to discuss the work that was detailed in the progress report previously sent (no.1)
(4) The members of the TAC committee will address questions to the student (the advisor should not participate in the discussion, unless requested)
(5) A discussion with the student in the absence of the thesis advisor
(6) The chair writes the report (or she/he may designate another member of the committee, other than the Ph.D. advisor, to do so). This report is sent to the PPU Doctoral Program Office at Institut Pasteur (phd@pasteur.fr), within one month of the date the TAC was held. The PPU office submits a copy of the report to the University. This report serves the purpose of updating the PPU program and the University on the student’s progress, and suggestions made by the TAC.
A central component of the Pasteur Paris University International Ph.D. program (PPU) that offers additional support and guidance to the students, is a Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) which follows the progress made by each of them on their chosen thesis project. Its role is to discuss the project with respect to the original aims and in light of new advances in the scientific field and the research plan for the next year and to provide advice for scientific and career issues.
Each Committee will be composed by three to four members : the Ph.D. advisor, a tutor, an expert in the domain of the student’s Ph.D. project and a member of the Doctoral School. The latter is suggested by the University, while the Ph.D. advisor suggests the names of two experts to the PPU Program Committee. The Teaching Director of Institut Pasteur appoints the tutor based on proposals by the PPU Program Committee, in agreement with the Doctoral School. The member of the University or the expert will serve as chair. The PPU TAC replaces the University committees.

Students meet with the TAC Committee whenever necessary, but not less than once per year. The meetings are organized by the student, in consultation with the Ph.D. advisor and the PPU Program Committee. The first TAC meeting takes place in spring of the first year.
The second and third TAC meetings are programmed between October and March of subsequent Academic years.
