This course is aimed at MDs and PhDs as well as and veterinarians who wish to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge of medical mycology.
This course will be taught in French.
The course is divided into 7 parts combining lectures, seminars and bench work and includes a final part designed as an introduction to research in Medical Mycology on topics that will change every year. The 7 parts are:
1. Basic knowledge in Medical Mycology: epidemiology, sexual and asexual reproduction, genome organization
2. Methods of study: molecular diagnosis and identification, antifungal susceptibility testing, typing methods.
3. Pathogenic yeasts: identification of common or emerging yeasts, serodiagnosis, histopathology ¬ epidemiology, clinical features, physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment.
4. Pathogenic filamentous fungi: identification of common or emerging filamentous fungi, serodiagnosis, histopathology ¬ epidemiology, clinical features, physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment.
5. Dermatophytes: identification ¬ clinical features, epidemiology and treatment.
6. Tropical mycoses: identification, serodiagnosis, histopathology ¬ epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment.
7. Introduction to research in medical mycology: seminars, discussions
Knowledge of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Master level is recommended.



* Full-time, except Saturdays, from March 2, to April 10, 2009 (examinations included)
* Number of students: 20
* Closing-date for applications: November 15, 2008

Diplomas:

The Institut Pasteur Diploma will be awarded to students having successfully completed the final examination,

This course is run in agreement with the Université Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris 6 and Denis Diderot-Paris 7 and a University Diploma may also be granted,

"Mastère spécialisé" for the Ecole Pasteur/Cnam in public Health
