Candidates must have a good knowledge of genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry, equivalent to a Master level.
This course will be taught in French.
The specificity of the course consists in combining bench practical work with an in-depth analysis of genomic data in silico.
Lectures will address the fundamental aspects of genomics (structure and comparison of genomes, analysis of transcriptomes and proteomes), examples of medical and biotechnological applications.
Practical classes will include three parts:
1. Use of computing tools, in silico analysis of genome sequences and annotations, comparative genomics and molecular phylogeny.
2. Functional genomics by RNA interference (RNAi) in the ciliate Paramecium tetraurelia.
3. Basic and applied studies of genome instability in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a focus on spontaneous duplications of large chromosomal fragments, genes involved in expansion and contraction of DNA tandem repeats, use of microsatellites for strain genotyping.

* Full-time, November 3, to December 19, 2008 (examinations: December 15 to 19, 2008)
* Number of students: 20
* Closing-date for applications: June 22, 2008
