Candidates must have good knowledge of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics as well as a first year Master level, or equivalent in Immunology.
This course will be taught in French and in English.

The lecture program focuses on advanced studies of the main themes in cellular and molecular Immunology: molecular basis of antigen recognition by B and T cells, development of the immune system, repertoire selection and auto-immunity, intracellular communication, immune response, experimental immunotherapy and innate immunity.
The practical course involves the characterization of two functions of the AID protein (Activation Induced Cytidine Deaminase) in B cells: isotypic switch and somatic hypermutation. The role of AID in the switch will be studied in B cells cultured in the presence of LPS and IL4, by FACS analysis and ELISA. The role of AID in affinity maturation will be studied in cell lines transfected with a reporter GFP vector. Mutated cells will be detected by fluorescence and sequence analysis of BCR genes.
One week of group seminars supervised by two senior scientists.
