Post-doctoral research position

A post-doctoral research position is available within a collaborative project between the Unit of Regulation of Retroviral Infections in the team of Michaela Müller-Trutwin (coordinator of the project) at Institut Pasteur (Paris, France) and the Division of Immuno-Virology, headed by Roger Le Grand, at the Institute of Emerging Diseases and Innovative Therapies at CEA (Fontenay-aux-Roses, France). The major focus of the project is the discovery and characterization of correlates of protection against AIDS at the level of innate immunity. The approach will take advantage of SIV nonhuman primate models for HIV/AIDS (natural hosts, macaque, vaccinated-macaques) to analyze the early events leading to the control of immune activation and preservation of lymphoid tissue structures.

Candidates should have a PhD in Science and hands-on experience with flow cytometry and cell biology techniques. Experience in immunology, retrovirology and/or primatology is an asset. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with all the teams involved. The work in a BSL3 facility will be performed at the CEA.

The position is open starting February 1st 2013. Funding is coming from the Vaccine Research Institute (VRI) and available for a duration of 2 years.

Interested candidates should send curriculum vitae with a list of publications, letter of interest, and the name and contact information of two references to: michaela.muller-trutwin@pasteur.fr

30 years of HIV science: Imagine the future

May 2013 will mark the 30th year of the publication in Science reporting for the first time the identification of a retrovirus associated with AIDS-‐related syndromes, now referred to as human immunodeficiency virus. To celebrate this anniversary, the Institut Pasteur is willing to organize an international symposium. The objective of this symposium is not to trace the history of the discovery of the virus, but to concentrate on the actual challenges and the future perspectives in HIV science in the light of 30 years of fantastic achievements. Distinguished international speakers will share their findings and their vision of the priorities of HIV research in the coming years. The symposium will gather a broad panel of participant: senior scientists, young investigators, students and clinical researchers working in HIV and related areas from developed as well as resource-‐limited countries. Approximately 500 participants are expected to attend.
