Activities of the Department

The tenure researchers, engineers, students and post-docs of Department of Structural Biology and Chemistry embody an integrative approach to the study of complex biological systems. Through observation and experiments using the latest technological tools, we are able to grasp the exquisite details of mechanisms and the structure of molecules at several resolutions. The department includes a strong structural biology component, which resorts principally to X-ray diffraction, NMR and cryo-electron microscopy. Moreover, a chemistry component focuses notably on saccharides and nucleic acids. Several teams also study the molecular interactions and reactions, and their physiological impact at the cellular level of the cell, using a variety of biochemical, biophysical and microscopy methods. Simulation and in silico prediction closes the ensemble of approaches that are implemented in the Department. All these studies benefit from the cutting-edge equipment federated within a wide set of technological core facilities.

The Department is composed of two UMR CNRS : UMR 3528 "Structural Biology of Cellular processes and Infectious Diseases , and UMR 3523 « Organic Chemistry Unit ».
