Genotyping of Pathogens and Public Health

The platform Genotyping of Pathogens and Public Health (PF8 - platform 8 of Institut Pasteur’s Genome Center) provides easy access to genomics technology for laboratories involved in microbiological surveillance, molecular epidemiology and population biology of microbes.

One of our main missions is to provide a genotyping service with rapid responsiveness, which is particularly valuable in case of bio-emergency.  Sample volumes can range from a few to thousands of strains.

In collaboration with requesting laboratories, research and development of new genotyping or molecular identification methods is carried out.
Research projects are also are carried out on the phylogeny and population genetics of micro-organisms.

PF8 is a member of the Research Department "Infection and Epidemiology"  of the Pasteur Institute and belongs to Institut Pasteur’s Genopole.

Missions

The main mission of platform Genotyping of Pathogens and Public Health is to provide scientific and technical support to French laboratories  involved in microbiological surveillance and expertise in the field of infectious diseases. In particular, we develop and run molecular typing and genomic techniques to precisely characterize pathogens for identification or molecular epidemiology purposes.

The missions of the platform are fourfold:

1. A highly responsive sequencing and genotyping service

2. A programme of calls for collaborative projects, open at any time

3. Bio-informatics and bio-statistics expertise and developments

4. Research projects and technological development

Any microbiological emergency (outbreak, emerging infectious agent, accident and / or attack) that threatens public health at the national level, can and must mobilize the platform.
Our activities are supported financially by the Institut Pasteur and the Institut de Veille Sanitaire (InVS).
