The Eighth International Symposium: Saga of the Genus Bordetella, 1906-2006, will be held November 7-10, 2006, at the Institute Pasteur in Paris. The meeting will be oriented to physiology and genetics of the Bordetella species and the epidemiology/epizoology, pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of the illnesses that they cause. Bordetella pertussis is the cause of whooping cough, and Bordetella bronchiseptica is the cause of kennel cough in dogs and cats.

The Organizing Committee has obtained support from the National Institutes of Health (U.S.) to fund travel expenses of a limited number of trainees (undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows), including those from under-represented minorities (Native American, African American and Hispanic). An application for these funds must include a letter of recommendation from a nominating faculty member/principal investigator, a statement from the applicant as explaining why they would like to attend this meeting and a budget for travel expenses, with a maximum of €750 for those traveling from the U.S. Applications can be submitted electronically to Laurence Langlais.
