Thanks to the supports of FEBS and FEMS we will be able to provide a limited number of bursaries to help graduate students and post-doctoral fellows attend the meeting.
Criteria (age, current country of residence) for obtaining bursaries from FEBS and FEMS differ. Thus, we strongly recommend that you read this page entirely and select the type of funding that is most apporpriate to your current situation. Because the documents requested to apply for the FEBS and FEMS bursaries are similar to some extent, it is possible to apply for both, provided you meet the requested criteria. This will increase your chances to get funded. However, in the end, funding will be obtained from only one funding body.

 

FEBS Youth Travel Fund (YTF)

Application Procedure

FEBS provides a limited number of bursaries to help graduate students and post-docs within 5 years of obtaining a PhD attend the meeting. To be eligible for an award, individuals should apply with an abstract, curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation. The candidates should include with the application their full address, phone and fax numbers and their e-mail address. Payment of the bursary will be made upon arrival at the meeting.

Conditions for Award

  1. Applicants must present a communication as the first author.
  2. Applicants should meet the three following conditions (a) be registered as a student at an institution of higher learning in a country where there is a FEBS Constituent Society, or be within 5 years of having completed a PhD thesis; (b) be a member of a FEBS Constituent Society; (c) not have received a grant from the Youth Travel Fund to attend an Advanced Course in the current year (2007).
  3. Awards will be made only to persons traveling from their current country of residence to another country.
  4. Where support for traveling is given, the amount of the award shall be related to the distance from the applicant's place of work to the venue of the meeting.
  5. The awards shall be made by the FEBS treasurer in consultation with the chair of the scientific committee of the meeting.
  6. Only in exceptional circumstances may any of these conditions be waived.

 

FEMS Meeting Grants

Application Procedure

FEMS provides a limited number of bursaries to help microbiologists under 36 years of age attend the meeting. To be eligible for an award, individuals should apply with an abstract, curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation. The candidates should include with the application their full address, phone and fax numbers and their e-mail address. They should also include a Young Scientists Meeting Grant Application Form (download the form). Payment of the bursary will be made upon arrival at the meeting.

Conditions for Award

  2. Applicants should meet the three following conditions (a) be a member of a FEMS Member Society or recommended by such member; (b) be younger than 36 years of age at the closing date of the meeting; and (c) be a working microbiologist.
  3. Awards will be made only to persons traveling indinstinct of their current country of residence, provided they meet the above criteria.
  4. The meeting organizers with the help of the scientific advisory board will select grantees and decide of the grant type and amount.
  5. The FEBS Grants Administrator will then send each grantee a grant certificate and a certificate of attendance.
  6. The meeting organizers will then transfer the grant to the grantees at the meeting and obtain the certificate of attendance from the grantees.
