Postdoctoral positions in the MALARIA PARASITE BIOLOGY AND VACCINES UNIT

Description

We seek highly motivated individuals for post-doctoral positions in a new Unit called Malaria Parasite Biology and Vaccines directed by Chetan Chitnis at Pasteur Institute, Paris.

Project Outline

The main focus of our group is to study molecular mechanisms that mediate host cell invasion by malaria parasites using molecular, biochemical and genetic approaches. Key questions being addressed include studies on key receptor-ligand interactions that mediate red cell invasion by plasmodium merozoites and signaling mechanisms that regulate key processes such as merozoite egress from mature schizonts and apical organelle secretion during invasion. Leads arising from these basic studies will be followed up for development of novel drugs and vaccines.

Skills and Experience Required

Interested candidates should have a Ph. D. degree in Biological Sciences or related field and have demonstrated achievements and experience in one or more of the following areas: Protein Chemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology. Experience in malaria or parasitology research is not necessary but candidates should have a keen interest in applying their knowledge to problems in these fields.

To apply

Applicants should send a brief letter of motivation/interest, CV and two letters of reference by email to chetan.chitnis@pasteur.fr by September 8th 2014.
