A two-year post-doctoral position funded by a young researcher grant of the ANR (The French National Research Agency) coordinated by Dr. Olga Soutourina, is available from January 2015 in the laboratory of anaerobic bacteria pathogenesis (LPBA) headed by Dr. Bruno Dupuy at Pasteur Institute in Paris, France.
The post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of the part of the exciting ongoing project exploring the role of c-di-GMP in the riboswitch and antisense RNA-mediated control of
cellular processes associated with community behaviour in Clostridium difficile, a bacterium responsible for nosocomial infections.
This project is built upon the recent genome-wide identification by LPBA of a great number of regulatory RNAs in C. difficile using deep sequencing analysis (Soutourina et al. PLoS Genetics. 2013). This work strongly suggests the importance and the diversity of RNA-based mechanisms in this emergent pathogen. We assume that several processes important for C. difficile adaptation inside the host like motility, biofilm formation and interaction with bacteriophages including CRISPR system functioning are controlled by c-di-GMP via specific riboswitches and riboswitch-associated antisense RNAs. We will use various genome-wide and targeted molecular biology and genetics approaches in C. difficile and in heterologous hosts to decipher the function of selected target genes and molecular mechanisms involved in c-di-GMP-dependent control.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in microbiology or molecular biology with solid background knowledge in bacterial genetics and RNA biology. We are seeking for highly motivated candidates interested in the control of community behaviour and regulatory RNAmediated mechanisms controlling gene expression. The previous experience in the regulation of gene expression and/or anaerobic bacteria physiology will be useful for this project. Skills in RNA methods and data analysis would be also recommended.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Olga Soutourina at email@example.com and send a Curriculum Vitae, including past research experiences and publication records, as well as a letter detailing their motivation and interest in our work. Applicants should also provide the names and contact details for two or three references and recommendation letters.
