Giving is fundamental to the Institut Pasteur's mission

Giving is one of the Institut Pasteur's three sources of funding and a pillar of its very foundation. It was thanks to the generosity of numerous donors that Louis Pasteur was able to found the institute in 1887. Today donations made to the Institut Pasteur offer significant support and a tremendous incentive for its scientists, encouraged by the interest and trust of donors.

Roughly a quarter of the Institut Pasteur's budget comes from public generosity (donations and legacies). The rest is made up of revenue from its own activities including patents and licenses, and government contributions.
Thanks to donors’ support, the Institut Pasteur is able to maintain its independence and freedom of research, and to provide a fast response when called upon in an emergency.
