Brigitte Autran, Professor of Immunology at Pierre and Marie Curie University, Head of the Immunology Department at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital.

 

Brigitte Autran, born in 1954, in Paris, is Professor of Immunology at the Pierre et Marie Curie University and Chair of the Immunology Department at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France. She also coordinates the French Consortium on Vaccine Researches (COREVAC) developed with IMMI and the AVIESAN Institutes which aims at boosting French vaccine researches from bench to bedside and to the society. She acts as an expert for Vaccines at the French Ministry of Health (Comité Technique des vaccinations) and is a member of the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety.

 


EDUCATION

Brigitte Autran received her M.D. from the Faculty Lariboisière Saint Louis, University Paris VII, in 1983 and her Ph.D. in Immunology from University Paris VI in 1994.

 

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Brigitte Autran has developed key researches on the Immunology of the HIV infection of related viruses and vaccines. Her major contributions in the HIV immunology provided first demonstrations of immune defences against HIV, reconstitution of the immune system and development of therapeutic vaccines and immune-based Interventions against HIV infection since 1998. She has also developed international programs on therapeutic vaccines and new immune-based therapeutic. Brigitte Autran has also developed researches on the immunology of vaccines against other viruses such as Poxviruses, Influenzae viruses, particularly in immune suppressed individuals.

 


HONORS AND AWARDS

Brigitte Autran is a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
